Supervision

I'm a UKCP registered supervisor offering clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists. I have a great deal of experience to offer any supervisee after sitting in the therapist's chair for well over the 10,000 hours that Malcolm Gladwell asserts is the key to achieving true expertise in any skill (2009).

In my experience effective supervision involves offering a space that feels safe enough to bring all aspects of our work with clients. I aim to encourage practitioners to maintain and develop confidence in their work and intend to provide a space which accepts and allows exploration of our inevitable fallibility: a place where we can celebrate our successes but also examine the clients and cases we will certainly come across that are more tricky. I work from a supportive position to facilitate any therapist in handling difficult material, countertransferential issues, embodied work, theory/practice gaps, managing self care and much more besides depending on what's needed by any particular person on any particular day. In this kind of space we can gain greater objectivity and a depth of understanding which is deeply beneficial both to ourselves and our clients.

I enjoy (and have experience of) working with supervisees at differing points of their careers from those still studying, setting up practice, university lecturers and post-doctoral practitioners. I really enjoy sharing my expertise and chewing over the therapeutic process in supervision and (coming from a first career as a musician) have a particular insight, experience and comfort with working creatively. As an Integrative therapist I have knowledge of, and respect for, all schools of Psychotherapy and Counselling. I work with a process model which allows for many ways of working to be thought about together.
